Cogent will be performing network maintenance to improve the quality of their network on Sunday 3rd May 2009.  The interruption of the cogent transit service will approximately take 10 minutes to complete during the maintenance window.  All traffic will route via an alternative supplier during this time.

We have now completed the upgrade to our central backup server.  The upgrade included the addition of a battery backup for the array controller card and addition to 1TB hard disk drive to the array.   This upgrade will provide additional backup capacity and will enable faster restoration of data rather than retrieval from tape.

Today we have added to new peer at LINX, Ubuntunet Alliance .   Ubuntunet Alliance is a non profit alliance of African research and education networks, and exists with the goal of providing cost effective bandwidth and Internet services to national research and education networks on the African continent.

Today we have introduced a new Primary DNS Server (nameserver).  The new nameserver (ns0.thex.uk.provider-one.net) is the first deployment of 4 new primary and secondary name servers to accommodate the growth in the number of domain names we maintain on behalf of our customers.  The remaining 3 name servers will be deployed gradually over the next two/three weeks.
